MoveCircle: How Does It Work?

We are just starting out, and we want you to help us create what the MoveCircle is… it will grow and change as it needs to.

MoveCircle is a cohort based peer-to-peer movement community.

We are recruiting for 10 Movement Practitioners to join us to create the inaugural MoveCircle Cohort which we are calling ‘Cycles’ .

The Cycle will work as a fixed cohort for 3 months from March to May 2024.

MoveCircle is a place to grow, share and expand through offering movement, testing, trying out new ideas, and receiving movement, supporting and nurturing your peers.

There will be 6 Circle Session of peer-to-peer development. In these sessions Circle members can choose to offer movement to the group if you want to try out an idea or practice for an upcoming show/class and receive facilitated feedback from the group after your offer, helping you refine and develop your practice before taking it into another space.

Equally members can opt to receive and support movement from your peers, taking time to explore other people’s movement practice and nurture yourself and them by offering feedback after their session. As movement practitioners we rarely get the chance to simply be and receive, so this is as much a party of the development as offering.

It is a community, growing together.

Dates

The first Cycle will run from beginning March - end of May

Circle Sessions will happen every other Monday across the 12 weeks

March: 4th, 18th
April: 1st, 15th, 29th,

MoveCircle is intended to be a supportive offer to the beating heart of movement in the arts industry. It has been conceived and created by movement directors Amy Rushent and Joseph Lynch (Babel’s Artistic Director), who are both alumni of MA Movement: Directing and Teaching at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Amy and Joseph hope that MoveCircle can go on to be co-run & co-created by it’s members.

  • The Circle is a place for Movement Practitioners of different backgrounds and practices to share skills and develop together. So we ask that if you are interested in applying you already have an established movement practice.

This does not necessarily mean a movement director and could be anything from a Mover, Dancer, Choreographer, Tutor, Movement Director, Rehearsal Director, Dance/ Movement Therapist, Body Conditioning Coach (or any other coach/ instructor role i.e. Pilates), Intimacy co-ordinator, Researcher and more.

As long as you have a practice working with Movement and the body within the creative industries

  • We acknowledge the systemic inequity of many of the industries unions and bodies, so we do not require you to be a member of spotlight, equity, etc

We are committed to fostering equity in the creative industries, and acknowledge the additional labour it takes for Black, Brown and Global Majority Artists to show up.

We strongly encourage applications from Black, global majority, working-class, neurodivergent and LGBTQI+ participants and we will be responsive to any information on what you need to be present in the space.

This is a place for the neurodivergent

The space welcomes all embodied modes of cognition and will be active in ensuring access needs are met. We will continually engage in communication of access needs across the cycle, acknowledging they may change throughout the process.

The building is fully accessible via wheelchair, with a fully useable lift and accessible bathroom.

We welcome all bodies into the Move Circle space and are committed to creating a space that acknowledges oppression and practices liberation.

  • Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. All applicants will hear back from us within 2 weeks of submission. Deadline for applications is midnight Sunday 18th February and all applicants will be contacted by Tuesday 20th February at the latest.

This inaugural MoveCircle is costed very low as we try out what’s possible and gauge response so places are likely to fill up quickly, and we estimate allocating all places by end of January so... Get your application in now.

Application can be made via a simple google form here. There are links in there to upload video or voice recording.

We can accept whatsapp applications for those that need it. Just get in touch.

  • Successful applicants will be informed within 14 days of their application and can confirm their place by paying the full amount.

We acknowledge it is a tricky time of year, we can arrange for your place to be reserved by paying a deposit of £50 and set up a payment plan for the remainder which must be paid by end of February
