WORK WITH US

Join Babel and help us tell the story of our artists, our work and our growing creative community.

£17.50 per hour | 2–4 hours per week | London-based

Babel is looking for a Creative Marketing Assistant to join our small team and work closely with our Artistic Director to tell the story of our work, our artists and our growing community.

Babel is an artist-led theatre organisation specialising in artist development, training and the creation of new work.

Over the last few years, we've grown to become nationally recognised as one of the UK's leading artist training organisations. Artists travel from across the UK and internationally to train with us and the artists we programme, and our programmes bring together emerging and established artists with some of the most exciting practitioners working across theatre, dance and performance today.

We work with hundreds of artists every year and we want to get much better at capturing, sharing and celebrating what happens inside that work.

We're looking for someone creative, curious and excited by social media to help us do that.

This is a freelance role of approximately 2–4 hours per week, with the opportunity for the role and its responsibilities to grow over time.

THE ROLE

What you’ll do

Your main focus will initially be working closely with Babel’s Artistic Director to develop consistent and cohesive social media and digital content.

Some activities and duties included in this role are:

  • Design and create regular social media content using Canva

  • Film and edit short-form video and Reels

  • Turn the activity happening across Babel into engaging and accessible content

  • Capture and communicate the stories of the hundreds of artists who take part in our work each year

  • Interview and create content with artists, facilitators and practitioners from across our programmes

  • Schedule and publish content across our social channels

  • Help identify gaps in our current content and visual identity

  • Explore ways our visual identity can grow to better communicate who we are and the impact of our work

  • Help us build a more consistent and meaningful relationship with our audiences online

You'll have opportunities to create content with and around the artists we produce, programme and collaborate with - from emerging theatre-makers to leading practitioners working across the industry.

Over time, with the right person, we'd like the role to grow to include responsibility for our newsletter, website and wider digital marketing.

Who we’re looking for

We're looking for someone who understands social media, has a strong creative eye and knows how to turn an idea, person or story into engaging content.

You don't need years of professional marketing experience. We care much more about what you can make, your creative instincts and your understanding of the work we do.

You'll need:

  • Strong Canva design skills

  • Experience creating content for social media

  • The ability to film and edit short-form video and Reels

  • A good visual eye and an understanding of what makes content engaging

  • Strong written communication

  • Confidence talking to and interviewing artists and practitioners

  • Knowledge and understanding of dance and/or physical theatre

  • A genuine interest in theatre, dance, physical theatre, performance, artist development and the wider creative and cultural industries

  • The ability to work independently, manage a small regular workload and meet deadlines

  • To be London-based, as you'll sometimes need to attend Babel activity to capture content in person

Experience creating content for your own creative practice, a small organisation, student society, independent project or your own social channels absolutely counts.

Babel means "the sound of many voices"

That idea sits at the heart of who we are. We create inclusive, dynamic cultures in which different voices, perspectives, artistic practices and lived experiences shape the work we make and the organisation we become.

As such are particularly interested in applications from Black and Global Majority candidates. We want the people helping us tell Babel's story to reflect the breadth of artists and communities that make up our work.

Previous INFUSE artists include Chris Evans, Rhys Dennis, Kloé Dean, Ephemeral Ensemble, Akeim Toussaint Buck, PROJEKT EUROPA, Ben Duke & Lost Dog, Monique Jonas, Dr Sue Buckmaster & Theatre-Rites, Ayşe Tashkıran, and Far From The Norm.

THE DETAILS

Fee & commitment

£17.50 per hour, freelance

We anticipate approximately 2–4 hours of work per week, equivalent to roughly £150–£300 per month, depending on the activity happening at Babel.

Most of the work can be completed remotely and flexibly, although you will need to be London-based and available to attend occasional Babel activity to capture content.

You’ll also have the option to participate in any of our residency programmes and workshops, with any of the artists we programme.

Start date: October 2026

We hope that as Babel continues to grow, this role can grow with us - both in hours and responsibility.

HOW TO APPLY

We've deliberately kept it simple.

Complete our short application form and tell us a little about yourself, your experience and why working with Babel interests you.

We'll also ask you to share examples of social media content you've created, particularly visual content and short-form video. This doesn't need to come from a professional marketing job - we're interested in seeing what you can do, how you might work with us, how you think and the kind of content you enjoy making.
