Babel Labs: Moment Making
A weekend of theatrical composition, emotional precision, and creative impact.
1st & 2nd November 2025
Chisenhale Dance Space, London
£120 | Or book all 3 Labs for £300 (instalments available)
Moment Making is the final Lab in our 2025 Babel Labs series—a focused weekend for performance makers who want to create bold, resonant work that stays with audiences long after the lights go down.
Led by Artistic Director Joseph Lynch, this Lab was our most requested from last years Labs and draws from Babel’s award-winning practice and our 10 year journey into the creation and sequencing of Moments as a dramatic beat combined with the legacy of Tectonic Theater Project Moment Work to explore how we build, shape, and layer meaning in performance.
You’ll explore the craft of making powerful moments—not just movement or scenes, but structured, emotionally charged compositions that hit with clarity, complexity, and intent.
Over the weekend, you’ll learn how to:
Build theatrical moments using image, rhythm, and space
Use gesture, text, and sound with greater precision and purpose
Sharpen the emotional and narrative arc of devised work
Layer meaning through physical storytelling and ensemble dynamics
Refine work in a way that deepens audience connection
Whether you’re developing new work, directing existing material, or crafting scenes with others, this Lab will support you in finding focus, sharpening detail, and making your work hit harder.
Who is it for?
This Lab is for movement artists, theatre-makers, and directors who want to build meaningful work through composition, not just improvisation.
Perfect for those in the final stages of making—or those looking to build more intentionality into their process from the start.
