Babel Lab 2026: Music as Collaborator
A weekend of physical training, creative ignition, and performance-making.
1st & 2nd August 2026
1pm - 6pm
Chisenhale Dance Space, London
£120 | Or book all 4 Labs + Core Lab Community for £400 (save £80! Payment plans available)
Join us in 2026 for the third in our Babel Labs series - designed for dancers, physical theatre artists, and performance makers ready to expand their tools and deepen their practice.
Co-led by Associate Director Valerie Uchechukwu Ebuwa and Artistic Director Joseph Lynch, this Lab focuses on Music as Collaborator - creating with and against sound. Move beyond "dancing to music" and explore how sound can become a creative collaborator, not just accompaniment.
Drawing on contemporary dance and physical theatre techniques, this weekend will help you:
Explore rhythm, silence, and tension in your work
Use sound to support your narrative and devising
Listen deeper and develop new language for talking about music
Work with and against music in choreography and performance
Build confidence in how you use sound, whether choreographing, devising, dancing, or directing
This Lab is for anyone who's ever felt intimidated by "music talk" or unsure how to articulate what they hear. You'll leave with new language, listening skills, and a deeper confidence in how you work with sound - alongside a supportive community of fellow artists.
Who is it for?
This Lab is for dancers, physical theatre artists, theatre-makers, choreographers, and anyone working at the meeting point of dance and theatre.
Whether you're just starting or refining your existing process, you'll leave with fresh tools, deeper clarity, and momentum for your next creative project.
